Produktgestaltung - Industrial Design
I made this project during my exchange semester at the HDK in Gothenburg, Sweden. The subject of the project was camping. The chainsaw is adapted for an building Camp in the forest, so it is an robust and flexible tool for amateurs. The saw is convertible for left- and right-handers.
The Chainsaw is driven by a strong electromotor and gets it´s energy from a batterie-backpack. This provides an ergonomical weight balance. Besides, the backpack is a container to transport and store the saw.
The Chainsaw adapts to "lefties" and "righties". To achive that, both handles can be turned. The back handle turns 180° and the handle in the middle 90°. Besides the chain has to be turned around. The front-protection automatically adjusts with the turning of the back handle. By turning the handles only half way, the saw can ergonomically be used to cut horizontal.
Besides the batterie, the backpack makes room for the Chainsaw and some tool and cleaning material.
The project evolved out of the subject of camping. I created a scenario where people go camping in the forest and build shelters, furniture and sculpures just by using wood from the surroundings.
